In Our Kitchen

About Us

Photobucket

We are a home schooling family of six. Our four children range in age from newborn-7 years old.

We eat all organic, free-range meals. I am very interested in healthy living (for us and the environment) and nutrition. We ascribe, mostly, to the traditional way of cooking, as taught by the Weston A. Price Foundation. In due time, you will find a section titled “In My Kitchen” with recipes, supplement advice, and whatever else I can cook up.

We have lived in various places across the United States and enjoy traveling. We spend our time reading, playing games, studying all sorts of new things and just being together.

We believe in a Higher Being, but do not affiliate with any religious organization or consider ourselves to be religious, as God can be found in all of Creation and is in everywhere that He Created. We try to educate ourselves and our children in all beliefs and theories to life, death and everything in between. We believe that only by being knowledgeable on many subjects can we be wise enough to make informed decisions. This requires the studying of “both sides” of every story/theory. For this reason, you may come across some thought-provoking, and perhaps, life-changing posts from us. It is always possible that you’re ahead of me in the scheme of things, too. ;)

As of early 2008, we have relocated from Colorado. The weather here is beautiful. The new job requires many hours. We are burned out but looking forward to vacation soon. Hopefully that will rejuvenate us. Being a management family has been quite an adjustment.

I am head-deep in home schooling. So, most of my update will revolve around that. I taught myself to knit last summer and can’t get enough of yarn and needles ever since. I am still really into scrap booking but don’t have much time to do it. So, I started a blog a few years ago for Aaron’s mom to stay in touch with us from across the country. It has developed into quite a bit more and I love it. It has been a way for me to look back overtime and see how our family has grown and changed. So, you can catch up with us there even more. There are pictures of New Mexico and Colorado and all places that we’ve visited in between. It is pretty true to life, so you’ll get the good and the bad, in some cases. :)

Micayah is 7 years old. He is technically in 2nd grade but reads at a 6-7th grade reading level and does 3-4th grade math. He is a whiz at everything he touches and makes me nervous. I can’t get him enough books. We go to the library every week; nature walks at the park twice weekly for science-related studies. He is following his daddy in that he loves to play sports both on computer games and in real life and everything he touches turns to gold. He is a HUGE helper around the house and such a joy to be with.

Malakye is 5. Can you believe it?!? He is reading well and picked up simple math without my ever teaching it to him. He loves building with Legos and Lincoln logs. He is mesmerized by Egypt and the Pyramids and Sphinx and recreates them all daily in some form or fashion – drawing, Lego villages, Lincoln Logs pyramids, you name it. He is learning how to ride a two-wheeler and loves to snuggle. His greatest anticipation each day is when I am about to read to them, usually from A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh or a history book.

Lauryn is a little Mommy at age 4. It has been quite an adjustment to Mommy such a girly-girl after having two bruisers! She is very sensitive and quite smart. She loves to carry her babies in her sling (just like Mama) and wants to be with me all.the.time. She knows her alphabet and can read simple words and count to numbers higher than my age. :) She loves to play at the playground and read.read.read. Lauryn really loves to read, but what this means is that I really do a lot of reading! She also loves to draw pictures and write letters. She can spell her name and write it and loves to practice writing. Lauryn is a wonderful big sister to Naomi. They just recently began to share a bedroom. The adventures never end!

Naomi is almost 11 months. She is absolute joy, as Naomi does mean “pleasant.” I had her at home with an unassisted birth and have a bond with her like I did with no other. She and I are very in-tune to each other. She stands, squats, crawls, babbles and hums some of our favorite songs. She is a smart little girl with excellent communication skills. She is also a very determined child. She knows what she wants and will scream until *I* figure it out. Usually I KNOW, I just can’t respond on a whim since I’ve got three other children who might needs something now and then also. Naomi began crawling at age 4 months and walking at age 8 months. At almost 11 months, she is very communicative and there is little doubt about what it is she is trying to tell me.
